Wellness as a term is broad, as there are multiple dimensions that influence an individual’s total well-being. However, achieving a state of total well-being requires effort to be taken in multiple areas of an individual’s life. A full-service wellness technology provider powers a wellness program that embodies all areas of total well-being. Wellness technology allows users to engage with their wellness program’s solutions at their own convenience.

A Comprehensive Guide to Wellness Technology

Employee wellness programs are increasingly vital to corporations in order to attract and retain top talent and ensure employee satisfaction levels remain high. But creating and managing a wellness program can be a full-time job, not to mention the stress involved in satisfying the C-suite’s desire to effectively track and evaluate participation, and ROI of these programs.

There are various delivery methods of wellness programs; some are offered by employers providing wellness guidance directly to their employees, while others are wellness providers that are in the business of developing, delivering, and promoting wellness initiatives for employers. In both cases, there is a lot to administer and programs are constantly growing in variety and complexity. This is where wellness technology becomes so vitally important to power programs, allowing you to manage, administer and promote your wellness program like a rock star. Group of happy employees

Build Vs. Buy Wellness Technology

Technology is a key determining factor for success for any company providing wellness services. It dictates a company’s efficiency but, more importantly, it is a major influencer in the customer’s buying process. If your customer-facing technology is in need of an update, the guide below outlines software development options and factors that will help you make an informed decision for the long term.  Two people sitting next to computer

A build vs. buy decision needs to account for continued consumer satisfaction, general application maintenance, and ensuring procedures are in place to uphold security standards.

If your wellness software is more than a couple of years old and you do not have a solid team of developers dedicated to daily maintenance with a mandate for system longevity, this whitepaper will help to give tips and options for building a wellness platform.

Wellness Technology Requirements Checklist

Once you have a better understanding of the basics of wellness technology and have decided whether a build or buy model is best for your needs, the next step is to determine your technology needs. Not all technology is built the same. Depending on your wellness program’s desired goals, your technology provider needs to have the software that supports all of your desired functionalities. This checklist breaks down all software vendor requirements such as third-part integrations, security, user experience, data reporting, and more.

Wellness Portal Agenda & Demo Flow Script

This flow template is a helpful tool to get you and your team prepared for your wellness technology demo. Establishing an agenda prior to attending a demo with a wellness technology provider will clarify the flow of the demo while addressing project goals. When followed, the 7 steps in the Demo Flow Script should provide an in-depth understanding of a vendor to determine if they are the right fit for your wellness program needs.

Demo Evaluator Scorecard

After your team has adequately prepared for a demo using the Portal Agenda & Demo Flow Script above, next, you should make your wellness technology vendor search process efficient and useful for all evaluators. It’s helpful to make notes throughout each demo in a scorecard such as the one available below. It provides a place for evaluators to make notes and rate each of the vendors’ demos. Then, at the end of the process, feedback is timely and accurate, thereby assisting with the debrief process. It is recommended that each evaluator be provided with a scorecard for each vendor demo for them to make notes, provide a score, and finally, return notes to the project manager. A final tally of the scores can then be easily calculated and the debrief discussion(s) have accurate points to go off of.

Understanding Global Privacy

Numerous myths and misunderstandings exist related to the geographic location of the storage of personal information or data, particularly sensitive Personal Health Information (PHI). Must it be stored onshore? Can it be stored offshore? If so, in what locations and under what conditions? If the data is physically stored in the country of origin, may it be accessed for support and troubleshooting by someone in another country? What about a remote screen share where the data is not actually crossing international borders?

security

Given the amount of PHI that is collected in a wellness program, it is vital for your organization to have procedures in place to keep this information secure. However, it seems that no matter who you talk to, in whatever country, you tend to get different interpretations of what the law says about the matter. Our Global Privacy White Paper provides our views on the location in which personal information may be stored. Geographic locations that are disseminated in the White Paper include the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, The Middle East, and Latin America. Our views are based on consultations with information privacy experts.
