IT Analyst - Full Time

IT Analyst Duties and Responsibilities

The IT Analyst works as part of the dedicated clan that is the Information Technology division. He or she will be liaising with the high-level IT positions of large organizations such as CIOs, VP Development, CTOs and Security experts.

1. Planning and development

Providing advice on the most suitable processes for ongoing and new requirements.

  • Assisting with ISO 27001 certification process.
  • Enhancing and maintaining IT Policies and Procedures, responses to Due Diligence Questionnaires.
  • Managing and implementing a replacement program for hardware and software according to recommendations and within the constraints of financial allocations.
  • Give advice and recommendations on IT services.
  • Learning new technologies and staying abreast of security requirements.

2. Infrastructure and Services

  • Assisting the management of Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting.
  • Configure and manage backups of servers and workstations.
  • Setup and maintain database mirroring, log shipping and replication.
  • Assist management of and support testing environments.
  • Manage and test production Microsoft software patch deployment.
  • Produce documentation to enable efficient operation and support of systems by others in the post holder’s absence.
  • Assist in managing and developing the IT infrastructure according to its specifications.
  • Management of the departmental firewall including configuration of new openings according to requirements and security analysis.
  • Assisting with network security and integrity through active monitoring and proactive security measures.

3. User Support

Providing occasional technical support for staff networked computers and associated peripherals.  Responsibility for:

  • Supporting our resident Support Ninjas to resolve escalated issues as required.
  • Backup for first-line determination of hardware, software and networking faults on new and existing computers and peripherals, dealing with repairs.
  • Providing support and encouragement to end users for key issues such as backing up of data and protection against computer viruses, induction of new staff and visitors as appropriate.
  • Obtaining quotes for appropriate hardware and software, and its installation and configuration.
  • Support telephones.

Undertake other such duties as may be assigned in the light of the post holder’s knowledge and experience.

Selection Criteria

The candidate should be educated to degree/diploma level, preferably in an IT related subject, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Skills

  • Detail and process oriented; willingness to drive and create process.
  • Problem solving and the ability to learn efficiently.
  • Strong critical thinker while maintaining a good sense of humour.
  • Able to work independently and with a small team to accomplish big things.
  • Several years of experience in an enterprise infrastructure environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to be accessible, adjust work schedule, and provide support outside of normal business hours (including evenings and weekends), as required.
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts, including LAN/WAN infrastructure, VPN, Firewall, DNS and TCP/IP routing. Familiarity with network diagnostic tools.
  • Some Microsoft Azure experience.
  • Experience with various Microsoft Software products (Windows Server, IIS, Active Directory, etc.).
  • Setting up and administering servers and services in a secure manner.
  • A good working knowledge of Windows operating systems in a networked environment. Some *nix experience would be an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting critical applications that require near 24x7 uptime
  • Hands on experience of WSUS, SCCM and/or SCOM
  • Microsoft certifications an asset
  • Experience with Cisco networking
  • VMware
  • An understanding of backup systems in a mixed environment.
  • Advanced Linux systems management.
  • Mitel VOIP phone system experience
